007 will be back on our screen with a new film set to be released starring *****!

The very successful movie franchise owes its credit to writer Ian Fleming, who created this iconic British character in 1953. Between 1953 and his death in 1964, he had written no less than 14 books, but the franchise could not stop there as since then no less than eight other writers have contributed to the series which Fleming started, bringing the total up to 40 books! If you want to read the Bond books written by the various chosen authors, then keep scrolling down - all have been nicely listed below for your convenience. For the younger generation there is a 'Young Bond' series written by Charlie Higson, which is based on the enigmatic character James Bond as a young teenage boy attending school at Eton College, set in the 1930's. If you would like to indulge yourself in a new action-packed series, then see the 'Young Bond' list below.

Ian Fleming brought this icon to life with his first novel 'Casino Royale', whilst living at his Goldeneye estate in Jamaica. The inspiration behind the Bond name: Ian Fleming told The New Yorker in 1962 "When I wrote the first one in 1953, I wanted Bond to be an extremely dull, uninteresting man to whom things happened; I wanted him to be a blunt instrument... when I was casting around for a name for my protagonist I thought by God, James Bond is the dullest name I ever heard."
