Why I Write for Children and Run a Twitter (X) Science Page
Writing and sharing science content for children started as a deeply personal project. My son, who is autistic, inspired me to explore creative ways to teach him. When he was homeschooled, finding methods to hold his attention was challenging. Visuals and videos became an engaging bridge to teach science concepts, sparking his curiosity and helping him grasp complex ideas in a fun and accessible way.
To my surprise, what started as a personal tool grew into something much larger. I began sharing these visuals and videos on Twitter (now X), thinking they might help others. The response was overwhelming, parents, and educators shared how much they benefited from the posts. Their encouragement inspired me to keep going, turning a small experiment into a thriving community of learners.
Now that my son is in school, it’s heartwarming to see how this journey has impacted him. He often amazes his teachers with unique facts he’s picked up from the content we explore together. It’s a reminder that learning is not confined to classrooms; it can happen anywhere, in any format that resonates.
Running the Twitter page has profoundly impacted our family. It’s given us a shared purpose and a sense of connection with others facing similar challenges. I’ve grown as a parent and educator, learning how to present complex topics in a way that excites curiosity. More importantly, it’s shown me that every child, regardless of their learning style, deserves opportunities to explore, wonder, and discover the world around them.
This journey has taught me that small steps—like sharing a video or explaining a concept—can have ripple effects far beyond what I ever imagined. And for that, I’m deeply grateful.
Kindest regards,
