Basquiat - The Criterion Collection

Jeffrey Wright stars as the eponymous Brooklyn-born artist in this biographical drama written and directed by Julian Schnabel.

After selling some decorated postcards to Andy Warhol (David Bowie) and art dealer and collector Bruno Bischofberger (Dennis Hopper) in a restaurant, Jean-Michel Basquiat rises to become a star of the art world in 1980s New York.

However, he struggles increasingly with his fame and his growing dependence on heroin until his self-destructive tendencies threaten his career and his life.

The cast also includes Claire Forlani, Gary Oldman and Benicio Del Toro.
