In 1980, the Galactica and its civilian fleet reach Earth but those aboard soon realise that Earth's people cannot help them in their fight against the Cylons.

Hoping to covertly advance Earth's technology so that the planet can withstand a Cylon attack, they attempt to subtly influence scientists on Earth but face opposition from one of their own.
