The Beggar's Opera

Made-for-television dramatisation of the satirical ballad opera, originally written and performed in 1728.

Set in the fetid confines of the infamous Newgate prison, the story follows the fortunes of the villainous highwayman Macheath (Roger Daltrey), captured and imprisoned amongst the low-lifes of London, and the twisted and devious relationships that form around him.

The cast also includes Bob Hoskins, Stratford Johns and Patricia Routledge.
