The two authors, Peter Brukner and Karim Khan, are high-profile sports physicians and academics, both having been heavily involved in the last three Olympic Games and presenting regularly overseas.

Professor Brukner was the first non-American Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and is an inaugural Fellow of the Australian College of Sports Medicine. Professor Khan has been based at the University of British Columbia, Canada, since 1995 and runs the authors' website that strongly promotes the book using the cover as the main design theme, and includes abstracts that focus on sections applicable to particular disciplines.
