This updated encyclopedia of the history of the world includes over 450,000 words, over 700 new articles, 300 biographies and an expanded quiz.

It includes events that happened right up to 1997, such as the ceasefire in Bosnia, the rebel victory in Zaire and the Palestinian peace talks. Other features include: the "History Quest", an activity which challenges the user to explore six topics, such as great rulers, monuments or pastimes; the "Country History" section, which provides an overview of history of 79 countries, from earliest human habitation to the 1990s, and each country history has further links to related key articles and biographies; and the "Who's Who" section, which has over 200 new biographies and includes people from Pericles and Amenhotep III, to Boris Yeltsin and Benazir Bhutto. All the text on the CD-ROM is stored "live", which allows powerful search facilities including a date range search.

There is also a tracking device, "The Encyclopedia Navigator", which displays the entire content of the CD-ROM allowing for clearer navigation around the product, and a backtrack feature which shows the last 20 articles visited.
