In recent years attempts to recover the history of women writing for the theatre have brought to notice such writers as Aphra Behn, Susanna Centlivre, Githa Sowerby, Elizabeth Robins and Marieluise Fleisser, and this book sets out to present a comprehensive bibliography of women playwrights whose work is available in English.

Each entry includes a biography of the author, a listing and synopses of her plays, and information on obtaining copies of the scripts.
