Taming the Panzers : Monty's tank battalions

Churchill stated that the week long defence of Calais in 1940 (in which the 3rd Royal Tank Regiment was the only tank formation) gave the BEF extra time for the crucial evacuation from the Dunkirk beaches.

In the spring of the next year the reformed, refitted battalion fought the Panzers again in the ill-fated campaign in Greece.

Hitler was furious since the six-week campaign delayed Operation Barbarossa - his Panzers might have reached Moscow that much sooner before the Russian armies could re-group.
