El Alamein - 1942

Italian war drama that follows a young university student who volunteers to fight in Africa during World War II.

Private Serra (Paolo Briguglia) has cause to regret his decision fairly quickly as the toughness of life in the dry terrain of Egypt is brought home to him.

Assigned to the Pavia Division, he is thrown into a struggle with the British, though the heat, boredom and insufficient food and water are initially greater enemies.

However, when the British attack and break through the Italian lines, survival becomes Serra's only concern.

Along with Sergeant Rizzo (Pierfrancesco Favino) and Lieutenant Fiori (Emilio Solfrizzi), Serra determines to find his way back to Italy, but with Mussolini ordering the shattered Italian troops to fight on this will be no simple matter.
