Dark Angel

Two-part ITV drama starring Joanne Froggatt as Victorian serial killer Mary Ann Cotton.

The story begins with 24-year-old Mary Ann Cotton, later dubbed Britain's first serial killer, as she returns to her home town of Seaham, County Durham having eloped with her husband Billy Mowbray (Tom Varey).

Having already lost four of her children, Mary Ann begins an infamous killing spree by poisoning her husbands and offspring to collect their life insurance policies and settle her debts.

As she kills off her family undetected, despite the suspicions of some close to her, Mary Ann continues to seek out new suitors to dispatch before finally being found out in 1873.
