The First World War, 1914-18

Through the use of original documents, such as diaries, journals, letters written by soldiers, legal documents, books, poems, speeches and Acts of Parliament, this book attempts to bring the huge tragedy and loss of life experienced in World War I to life.

It tells the story of these terrible years, explores the political situation that provided the breeding ground for war, and traces the course of the fighting.

It also looks closely at the wartime experiences of many people and briefly examines the changes that swept the world after armistice was signed.
