This book is divided into "spring", "autumn", "winter" three parts, and vividly expresses Harry Morgan's, an individualist, failure life.

In "spring", Morgan engaged in fishing boat rental business, and forced by livelihoods, transporting "live goods" (illegal immigrants) for others.

In order to protect them, he did not hesitate to defy the law and got into a murder case; in "autumn", Morgan was engaged in the smuggling trade in hard drink and lived a dangerous life.

In "winter", Morgan tried every way to earn money and even accepted the suggestion to send the terrorists who did the bank robbery to Cuban.

Although he killed the terrorist on a yacht, he was also died for a gun.

This is one of Hemingway's most controversial works.
