Ambient factors in the workplace

Ambient factors are those hazardous substances such as ionizing radiation, electric and magnetic fields, optical radiation, as well as noise, vibration, thermal conditions and humidity.

The current code of practice provides practical advice for assessing, eliminating and controlling these workplace factors.

With the main aim of prevention of harm to workers, the code provides guidance on the roles and obligations of competent authorities and the responsibilities, duties and rights of employers and employees.

It also has information on hazard assessment and the surveillance of workers' health and working environment.

The code has a focus on education and training and suggests programmes to ensure workers receive relevant, up-to-date information regarding their working conditions.
