Ruth (Bennett) is a woman in her thirties with a cashier job at a grocery store, a position she has held since her teenage years.

Not only this, but Ruth also has a taste for alcohol, drugs and cartoons one would expect to find in an effervescent teenager.

As her friends become pregnant, distancing them even further from Ruth's lifestyle, she decides to collude with the janitor at her place of work, Pedro (Trejo), in order to fit in with them.

Ruth will protect Pedro from the impending layoffs in their company and Pedro will help Ruth pretend that she too is pregnant.
