Imagine The Revenant crossed with The Walking Dead . . . In April 1846, a party of pioneers - fortune-seekers and families alike - set out on the long, arduous and dangerous journey from Illinois to California.

Reaching Wyoming, a break-away group of about ninety individuals, led by the generous but feckless George Donner, took the fateful decision to follow a new, untried route through the mountains in the belief that it would save precious time. And so began one of the deadliest and most disastrous western adventures in American history . . . Tamsen Donner must be a witch...that has to be the only explanation for the misfortunes that plague them: depleted rations, bitter quarrels, the mysterious death of a small child, searing heat that turns the sand into a boiling stew that swallows wagons whole and snows so cold that cattle freeze where they stand.
