Emanuele Crialese writes and directs this Italian-language drama starring Penélope Cruz and Luana Giuliani and set in 1970s Rome.

Clara (Cruz) is a wife and mother who has been left to pick up the pieces of an unfulfilling and abusive marriage, all while helping her children to navigate the complexities of life.

Clara's eldest child, Adriana (Giuliani) is struggling with gender dysphoria and, though Clara is supportive of Adriana, it is causing even more distance between Clara and her husband, Felice (Vincenzo Amato).

As Adriana, latterly known as Andrea, explores their identity, so too does Clara, as she relishes in childlike play with her children and grows only closer to them in the process.
