Dry Stone Walls of Eryri

Dry stone walls have been constructed since, at least, the Stone and Iron Ages.

In Wales the old Celtic field system slowly evolved into one of separate farms.

These were surrounded by small fields with large areas remaining as 'common moorland'.

Walling was the responsibility of the small farmer, even after becoming a tenant farmer to an absentee landlord.
