The Day of the Triffids

Two-part BBC adaptation of the classic science fiction thriller starring Dougray Scott and Joely Richardson.

In the near future humanity searches for alternative fuel supplies and they discover the Triffid, a crop that can be cultivated for fuel, however the crop also contains ominous and threatening properties that mean it must be closely guarded.

When a solar storm leaves billions of people blinded the Triffids escape captivity and are free to roam the planet causing havoc by breeding rapidly and harming humans with their fatal sting.

It is up to a small band of sighted survivors led by Dr Bill Masen (Scott) to try and save humanity from impending doom.

The cast also features Vanessa Redgrave, Brian Cox and Eddie Izzard.
