The March family consists of aspiring author Jo (Angela Down), the wilful Amy (Janina Faye), Meg (Jo Rowbottom), who loves all the fine things in life, and Beth (Sarah Craze), who seeks solace in her music.

Despite the usual sibling rivalry they provide comfort for each other through the difficult times without their father.
