British drama based on the novel by Penelope Mortimer, in which a melancholy woman struggles with depression while managing her large family and suspicions of her husband having an affair.

Jo Armitage (Anne Bancroft) suspects her husband Jake (Peter Finch) of being unfaithful due to several warnings and rumours from others and strange excuses.

This inflicts a profound depression upon Jo, which she struggles to contain.
