Part of the Discovering the past series
See all formats and editions

This material is based on the "real history" approach of the Schools History Project series "Discovering the Past".

These special needs support materials for "The Making of the UK" are intended to support history teaching with low-attaining or special needs pupil. "The Making of the UK" is Study Unit 2 in the Key Stage 3 National Curriculum.

All pupils in Y8 study this unit. The materials provide: a 224-page photocopiable teacher's resource book; a picture pack (16 cards) with teaching notes; and a pupil's workbook.

Together, these elements provide several flexible learning pathways through "The Making of the UK" to support a wide range of pupils, from those who have severe difficulties with reading (for whom the picture pack provides a minimum entitlement), to those who simply need more structured exercises or simpler source material than their peers are using.

The materials can be used alongside SHP's core textbooks "Societies in Change" or "Discovering the Making of the UK", or entirely independently.
