Robert Redford and Paul Newman star in this crime caper directed by George Roy Hill.

In 1936, young hustler Johnny Hooker (Redford) vows revenge after his partner Luther Coleman (Robert Earl Jones) is murdered at the behest of crime boss Doyle Lonnegan (Robert Shaw).

Travelling to Chicago, Hooker joins forces with Coleman's old friend Henry Gondorff (Newman) and the two plan the ultimate con to take down Lonnegan.

The cast also includes Dana Elcar, Dimitra Arliss and Charles Durning.
