Incredible images, historic newspaper pages and amazing personal stories help tell the story of the First World War as you have never seen it before.

The Unseen War is first in a four-part series of Daily Record/Daily Mirror magazines to mark 100 years since the first shots were fired in one of history's darkest episodes.

Included in the Scottish edition of the magazine is a FREE reproduction of a newspaper published the day after Britain entered the war.

Daily Mirror photographers were in the trenches alongside our soldiers, and we have dug deep into the archives to unearth an incredible selection of rare and unseen images.

The first-hand experiences of those who fought in the conflict are also told, starting with the story of a teenager who signed up as the country was gripped by patriotic fever.

We also look at how the first year of the conflict was reported through the front pages of the Daily Mirror, revisiting the famous Christmas Truce.

While there would hardly have been a family left untouched by the war, Amy Beechey's suffered more than most, with the widow losing five children in the conflict. We tell her harrowing story, while the diary extracts of a tunnel digger are also featured, together with letters soldiers sent home from the front line.

Finally, we pay tribute to some of the heroes of the conflict, including a Boer War veteran who was awarded a second Victoria Cross after returning to the battlefield.

The Unseen War, priced GBP5.99, is an unmissable magazine to commemorate one of the bloodiest conflicts the world has ever known.
