The Picture of Dorian Gray (1891) is a gothic novel by Oscar Wilde about the concept of art for art's sake and homosexuality.

An artist, Basil Hallward, paints a portrait of a handsome young man, Dorian, who follows the views of Lord Wotton regarding youth and beauty and decides to sell his soul.

In the pursuit of beauty and the indulgence of sensual pleasures, Dorian remains youthful, but the painting reveals Dorian's moral corruption.
