Tales of the Braes of Glenlivet

The Braes of Glenlivet lie on the eastern edge of the Grampian mountains, in one of Scotland's most active whisky-producing areas.

This collection of stories and memories spans a century of life on farms and around Chapeltown and Scalan. Mostly the work of Isobel Grant (but with other reminiscences, and also sections on history and placenames) it is a wonderful portrait of everyday country life and a fascinating social document of a district that lost most of its people between the two world wars.

The author paints a vivid picture of her family, friends and neighbours as she follows their fortunes through the years and describes a way of life now changed forever.
