UK energy policy and the world market

The papers in this collection are drawn from the 1999 British Institute for Energy Economics academic conference.

A main theme is the regulation of energy markets. The leading contributions are by Callum McCarthy, the UK Gas and Electricity Regulator, who considers the history of UK regulation, and by Dieter Helm of Oxford University, who details UK energy policy under the Conservative and Labour governments of the 1980s and 90s.

Other contributions cover oil markets, natural gas, electricity, nuclear power, and the links between energy policy and the environment. This book is intended for scholars and students of economics and energy studies.
