The Write Stuff : English & Media Studies for Transition Year

The Write Stuff presents a wide range of contemporary texts alongside classical material, all of which is imaginative, diverse and engaging, e.g.

Shakespeare, 'Edward Scissorhands' and David Bowie lyrics. Develops the Transition Year student's critical awareness in a variety of media and builds language skills in preparation for the new Leaving Certificate syllabus. *The TY student using this book is encouraged to write and explore film and literature so that they will end the year with a complete portfolio of work. *Strong use of illustration throughout helps to build a vocabulary of visual literacy necessary to study advertising and film.

Film study is heavily emphasised and each module uses a different film to highlight its theme, e.g. 'Blade Runner' in The Future module. This reflects the growing importance of film at Leaving Certificate. *Deals with six themes that are particularly relevant to TY students. *Modules can be studied consecutively or dipped into at random.
