Lone parents wishing to find part- or full-time work are likely to experience a number of barriers.

These are structural, reflecting the way in which benefits systems work, or personal, including low confidence levels, out-of-date skills, and childcare costs that are prohibitively expensive.

In recognition of the difficulties faced by lone parents, the National Council for One Parent Familes (NCOPF) runs a "Lone Parent Into Employment" initiative, primarily funded by the DfEE and evaluated by NCOPF themselves.

This report has been carried out by Social and Community Planning Reserach and presents their findings along with advice and guidance.
