Fruit machine repairman Jack (Buchan) has just recently proposed to his girlfriend of nine years, Camille (Garai), who is a medical professional.

Already up against pressure from his father (Philip Davies) to gain a position where he can properly support his wife-to-be, Jack's life gets turned upside down when a girl he had a one-night stand with turns up on his doorstep.

It appears that the fling he had at a rock concert seven years previously with Anna (Friel) had produced a child whom he has never met.
