The Comedy Man

Alvin Rakoff directs this 1960s comedy drama starring Kenneth More as an actor seeking his big break.

When Chick Byrd (More) loses his part in a play following an affair with the producer's wife, he decides that the time is right to head to London in search of the recognition he believes his talent deserves.

However, he quickly discovers that the city is full of actors in a similar position to himself: their youth and chances of fame quickly fading.

Chick's disdain for the new, less highbrow world of TV threatens to reduce his chances of success further until financial necessity forces him to take the lead role in a deodarant advertisement.

To his great surprise the advert makes his name, but where does the actor go from here?
