Published to coincide with the 1992 anniversary of the arrival of Columbus in the Americas, this active learning pack covers Mayan history and culture, Mayan daily life, discrimination and repression and human rights in Guatemala.

The pack contains a wealth of information and material on the Maya: information sheets together with 20 black and white photographs, a pupil's book, including a wide range of activities, collaborative exercises and games, a teacher's book detailing the relevant National Curriculum Attainment Targets and a booklet of successful work on Guatemala undertaken by a London school with plenty of ideas to encourage others.

The pack also contains a summary leaflet of MRG's report on the Maya of Guatemala and a map of the region.

This pack is aimed primarily at lower secondary classes and will support NC requirements in English, geography, history, religious education and the cross-curricular theme of citizenship.

It is also a resource for modern studies teaching in Scotland, and contains considerable material suitable for teaching personal and social education and for teaching human rights education, discrimination and racism.
