This thesis reviews the current literature for instrumental gesture and digital musical instruments.

It then elaborates on the gestures of electronic and computer music in the studio and as a result of algorithmic procedures as well as briefly review the composer-performer-listener model of music production.

This is followed by a brief history of performance and the concept of 'live' electronic music, from which a theory is derived whereby computer music is incorporating the body as its primary means of expression, elaborating on its perceptual impacts.
