Local self-government, territorial integrity and protection of minorities : proceedings of the UniDem seminar organised in Lausanne on 25-27 April 1996 in co-operation with the Swiss Institute of Comparative Law

Dealing with the subject of minorities and their protection throught constitutional and international law in Europe, this publication aims to show that local self-government can reinforce a state's territorial integrity by reducing tensions.

It reproduces national reports relative to self-government statutes benefiting minorities in Western countries, including Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Italy, Switzerland and Spain, and Central and Eastern European countries, including Bosia and Herzegovina, Hungary, Moldova, Russia, Slovenia and Ukraine.

The work of international organizations in the protection of minorities is also studied.
