This work presents the state of the art in infant nutrition based on the assessment of nutrient requirements in preterm and term infants; the relative role of macronutrients, protein, carbohydrate and lipids with regard to the development and growth of infants; presentation of recently developed methods to investigate physiologic responses to different food components; and an evaluation of dietary prevention on measures in allergy prone infants.

It features coverage of the effects of diet on metabolisms of lipids and polyunsaturated fatty acids, proteinhydrolysates and allergy, and quantity and composition of protein and the influence on protein metabolism.
