It was Jacob's custom to make many pairs of shoes every month for distribution among the poor widows and orphans.

Jacob told his sons that he would turn them into great shoemakers, and as a man of his word, Jacob let his children sit on his lap and look on and learn even while the children were still very young. And Jacob taught all his children the ancient tenet that good work is never wasted.
