These articles and speeches are reprinted here for the first time since they appeared in Spanish and foreign newspapers, journals, and clandestine broadsheets.

Some censored material has been restored. Unamuno inveighs against the corruption of the governments of the Restoration and the dictatorship of General Primo de Rivera and King Alfonso XIII.

He assesses the relative merits of Liberalism, Socialism, and Republicanism, and in exile bitterly attacks Primo de Rivera and King Alfonso VIII.

The English-language introduction analyzes the content of the items in relation to Unamuno's evolving political responses.

The texts are in the original Spanish but brief explanatory notes in English have been included for the non-specialist.
