Grammar Contexts : A Resource Guide for Interactive Practice

See all formats and editions

Mary K. Ziemer's new resource book is designed to enliven one-dimensional grammar lessons by offering activities and lesson plans that connect grammatical structures to contextualized situations and topics.

Interesting topics and tasks are inter-woven with grammatical structure to make the meaning and usage of a particular form clearer to intermediate-level ESL/EFL students in high schools and post-secondary institutions.

This book was written to be used along with the more popular grammar texts and series on the market.

An itemized reference list of the activities in each chapter is provided to help teachers find the appropriate activites.

This list indicates the skills used in each activity--listening, speaking, reading, and/or writing--and the means for learning, such as problem-solving, personalization, information gap, or songs.

Activities may require individual, pair, or group work.

Supplementary activities provide short, contextualized tasks to practice grammatical structures introduced in class--such as built around a famous quotation, a picture, a role play, or a timeline. Extended lessons more fully develop a context for the study and application of a grammar point.

Such a lesson generally requires 50 minutes to complete and follows the stages of presentation, practice, and application. .
