Anxiety disorders have been the subject of increasing interest during the past decade both from the point of view of their underlying psychobiology and the development of new therapies.

The contributions in this volume discuss basic and clinical aspects of panic and other anxiety disorders such as social phobia, obsessive-compulsive and post-traumatic stress disorders.

The results of molecular, neurochemical, neuroendocrinological and electrophysiological studies of these disorders are reported.

Taken together, they provide a rational basis for the definition of disorders common in the general population and for the development of new methods of treatment.

An interesting feature of the book is the discussion of newly available drugs which act specifically on the serotonergic system.

Cost/benefit issues are also addressed in the volume.

It will be a valuable tool for pharmacologists, psychiatrists, psychologists, health authorities and marketing representatives.
