Viking Era Swords

“Viking Era Swords” gives access to iconic examples held in private collections.

Readers are invited to enjoy fine, rare and previously unseen swords, illustrated in high resolution photographs by Dave WatsonThe photographs are accompanied by a description, measurements and comments, and when available, X Rays and CT scans produced by Robert Hill.

It is hoped that together with the introductory text this will make the book useful and valuable to enthusiasts and researchers alike. David Petty has been collecting and dealing in Viking Swords for more than 50 years and his love of Viking Swords has been the inspiration for this book. Robert Hill is an Orthopaedic Surgeon and Honorary Associate Professor at UCL.

In addition to his specialist medical work, for some years he has had an interest in swords, particularly medieval and Viking, and in particular using medical imaging techniques such as CT scanning in scientific investigation. He has published work on the funeral achievements of Henry V in Westminster Abbey and on Viking Swords.

He is a Council member of the Arms and Armour Society and a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries. David Watson is a professional photographer and publisher who specialises in photographing historical items and collections.

He has worked closely with David Petty on a number of previous books, as well as many auction houses, art galleries and other authors to produce high quality catalogues and books.
