Combating drugs trafficking and abuse : the challenge to Europe

Conference report based on Wilton Park Conference 385: 7-11 September 1992 "European Cooperation in the Fight Against the Drugs Trade".

Discussions at the conference were dominated by law enforcement approaches as this is currently the main area of international cooperation.

As the report indicates, a great deal of hard work and considerable resources have already been expended in law enforcement and interdiction measures to reduce drugs supply routes to Europe.

Some weaknesses exist, but are generally identified, although how to cope with the ramifications of organised crime and with the vulnerabilities of the eastern part of the continent has yet to be specifically addressed at international level.
