Susan Richards, a Russian scholar, has travelled to Russia and talked to ordinary Russian people about their lives and how they perceive the changes which have been made under Gorbachev's rule - if, indeed, anything has changed.

She explores the Soviet people through the prism of perestroika, to see how they and their country are coming to terms with the past and how they are beginning to conceive a different future for themselves.
