First published in two volumes in 1927, this classic collection of poems in Irish from the twelfth century to the early nineteenth century are published in one volume for the first time.

The poems deal with a variety of subjects including friendship, poverty and natural beauty but not with love as these are covered in Danta Gradha (Cork University Press).

The poems were selected by giving preference to those that were simple in style and which could be appreciated by the reader without any special knowledge of Irish history or genealogy.

The poems belong to the class technically know as danta, the chief characteristic of such poems is their fixed number of syllables, generally seven in each line.
