In the not too distant future, when pollution and global warming have forced most citizens to live inside domed cities, two teens are thrown together beyond the comforts of their city's protective dome. On an antique Indian motorcycle-retrofitted with a solar panel-the two embark on a cross-country trip through a mostly depopulated Outside world.

Seventeen-year-old Dominic Sanchez, suffering from the deadly disease squamutosis, has escaped from the Wheatland City Hospital where he was to undergo a harrowing series of Diplotoxan treatments against his will. He hopes to make his way to an alternative care clinic situated across his nation's northern border.

Sixteen-year-old Celia Sandstrom ended up on the Outside while fleeing from sinister men in a black car, seemingly intent on running her down. Why she has become their target she does not know. But it might have something to do with a secret hidden in the wheat-sheaf medallion that she has inherited from her mother, an agricultural scientist who worked for Koropco Industries and died in an automobile accident when Celia was a baby.

As Celia and Dominic journey together north through an inhospitable landscape, altered as much by corporate greed as climate change, they receive assistance from an eclectic cast of Outsiders.

Wheatland Burning - a young adult dystopian road novel.
