The "Weisse Rose" group was a student resistance group opposed to Hitler and to Nazi Germany.

Based in Munich, between 1942 and 1943 the group distributed pamphlets to the German people, urging them to wake up to what was going on around them and to revolt.

Using material from letters, diaries and other documents, as well as the pamphlets themselves - here printed in their original format - Hinrich Siefken has built up a personal and political profile of this group, which explores their motivation for resistance as well as the insuperable difficulties they faced.

Some of the material included has never before been published, in Germany or elsewhere. This should be a useful study text for topic-based courses in German studies.

All material is placed in its historical and political context and the various sections - notably the introduction in English, original documents with notes in German and the "Arbeitsteil" section - complement each other but can be used as indidivual points of entry into the source material.
