Entries range from acne, one of the many ailments of the horse listed in this book, and go through bedding, with the many materials including straw and sawdust, types of horses, e.g.

Hackney and Mongolian, expressions such as "rough off", foodstuffs, types of saddle, and the Spanish Riding School, to youngsters, horses under four years old, and zoonoses.

Many entries include more than a basic explanatory text with additional advice or information.

In addition to the ABC of the horse, its health and general management, under headings Employment and Qualifications the author gives advice on careers with horses.
