David Hockney is one of the most influential British artists of the twentieth century.

He spent his formative years in Yorkshire, leaving when he was 18, yet apart from a few early views of Bradford he studiously avoided England as a subject until the age of 60, finding inspiration instead in sunnier climates and in more exotic and brightly hued scenery. The resulting project has proven to be one of the most ambitious and extraordinary of his career.
