David Hockney is one of the most influential British artists of the twentieth century.

He spent his formative years in Yorkshire, leaving when he was 18, yet apart from a few early views of Bradford he studiously avoided England as a subject until the age of 60, finding inspiration instead in sunnier climates and in more exotic and brightly hued scenery.
