Harmonium - The Masters of Cinema Series

Kôji Fukada writes and directs this Japanese drama starring Tadanobu Asano as an ex-con who, after getting out of prison, seeks to reacquaint himself with one of his old friends.

Yasaka (Asano) is taken in to the home of his old friend Toshio (Kanji Furutachi), where he lives with his wife Akie (Mariko Tsutsui) and their young daughter Hotaru (Momone Shinokawa), and gains employment by helping Toshio out in his workshop.

Although Akie and Hotaru are initially wary of their new housemate, he proves to be a great help around the house and with Toshio's business as he grows closer to the family and seeks forgiveness for his past mistakes.

However, the close family unit starts to fall apart as Yasaka oversteps his welcome and the mysterious past he shares with Toshio begins to come to light.
