This novel chronicles the insights of the heroine Clarissa Dalloway from buying supplies for the banquet in the morning to the end of the banquet.

Although the structural framework of this story is a day in her life, that is, preparing and holding a banquet, the readers show far more than what she did in one day, but her life, her character, her family, and her life.

The relationship of friends. The appearance of her old lover more than 30 years ago evoked her memories of her girlhood.

The things in front of her made her think about her current situation, and the arrival of the guests caused her to look back on the grievances between people.

When she heard the news of Smith's suicide, she secretly admired this relief, thinking that only in this way could she truly keep her inner pure happiness.
