Upon reflection, Charlie E. Hill Sr. can say that his craving for acceptance began when his father died.

Leaving behind six children and a wife, Hill's father's death certainly left a mark on him.

The family was left to rely on his mother's maid salary of only $3 per day, leaving little room for luxuries such as wagon wheel cookies or cans of soda pop.

In his pursuit to satiate his craving for acceptance, something inside him pushed him to join the military. And so he did exactly that. Having his mother sign for him (being that he was seventeen at the time), he enlisted.

While lonely in the army as well, to his surprise, his loneliness did not last much longer.

Hill's godmother had arranged for a girl named Eleanor to write him.

From then on, Hill's journey toward acceptance began in the best of ways.
